RBL is having a Parts Sale!
RBL has a great selection of used parts listed in our eBay store. Not only do we have used mini bike parts, but we have added gas scooters, power wheels, and mighty wheels to the mix. And for the next two days we will be discounting everything up to 15%. Visit our store http://stores.ebay.com/red-beard-labs to see the sale we have right now.
We will be back with a couple new project posts soon, including an update on the rat rod mini bike and a 50cc gas scooter project. So keep checking back.Thursday, January 17, 2013
RBL enters OMB 2013 Mini Bike Build Off
Old Mini Bike Forum (OMB) is having a build off :
http://www.oldminibikes.com/forum/omb-build-off-2013/
RBL has an entry in the Open Class. Building a rat rod mini bike with a few tricks up my sleeve, like maybe the frame should sit on the ground then raise up to ride. There's still time for you to enter also. They are accepting entries until Feb 1st. There are four classes: Open Class, Vintage Class, More Than 2 Wheels Class, and Azusa Frame & Fork Class.
These guys don't play around so I'm going to have to bump up my game to even get noticed. I'll be posting the build on my own OMB Forum thread. Come check it out at: http://www.oldminibikes.com/forum/omb-build-off-2013/72954-red-beard-labs-open-class-rat-rod-mini-bike.html
and if you like to build mini bikes and you aren't scared then come join in the fun. I will even sell you some cool parts to help you win!

American Mini Chopper "The Build"
I wanted this chopper as soon as I saw it, even though the
engine looked ridiculous. Right?! I knew it would make a great project. Once I
got it home, it needed more work than I had planned on but it was so cool I
jumped right in anyway. I don’t know about you, but I love working on and
building mini bikes and go karts. This project was exciting for a couple of
reasons: 1) it was wicked awesome, and 2) because it was something I hadn’t
done before.
Click read more below to see the build unfold.

Where have you been? What have you been doing?
So
I haven't posted in a while, no I didn't quit, I've been doing work son. Things
have changed since my last post. I dropped some projects, added others, and
have started selling used parts on craigslist and ebay (in case you didn't see the big scrolling gallery at the top of the page). Go directly to our items list on ebay here. We've decided to sell the things we build and post. Starting with the Electric Beach Wagon. Remember it? What to build one yourself? Cool, see the build here. The mini bike chopper (lower picture) is another build, post, sell we are currently working on.
Need parts? Give us a try. Our mission is...

RBL disassembles small powersports vehicles to give you an inexpensive alternative to new parts. Whether you use RBL parts for repairs or as part of a new project, we aim for your satisfaction.
If you love small powersports like we do we hope you will continue to check us out regularly. Have questions, comments, or cool builds of your own? We would love to hear from you.

Solar Powered iPod Beach Speakers
I don’t know if you noticed, but I have been thinking
about going to the beach lately, with the Electric Beach Wagon post and now
this one. Once you get all of your stuff down to the beach and set up, you might
like some tunes to help you relax. We like to have a little background music,
but hate having to constantly change the batteries, so I decided solar power
would be the way to go. We can listen all day and never run out of juice, well
for the speakers anyway.
I bought this small set of iPod speakers for about five
bucks at Wal-Mart. We use this same set in our garage and believe it or not
they have a good sound and they are pretty loud for a cheap pair of speakers.
As for the solar panels I bought two solar pathway lights from the Dollar Tree
for, yeah, a dollar each. To put everything together and be sure it worked I
had to do some testing. Read more to see how it all came together…Monday, June 25, 2012
They didn't intend for it to be used like this...
I’m
always flattered by all the trouble companies go to just to make me happy.
Companies spend a lot of money, time, and energy engineering, designing, and
testing products before they are sold. However, the market is the real test. If
you think about it, we’re a large group of guinea pigs paying to test the
latest gadget in the real world. Then there are people like me who take an item
and modify it to do something it was never intended to do. I bet my picture
hangs on the wall of offices everywhere as a reminder to the guy who writes all
the warning labels.
Tinkerers, Modders, and Hackers see the world differently.
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to take things apart to see how
they work, then combine them with other things to make something completely new
and unique. I don’t see dead people, but I do see things differently than average
guy. Read more to see common items we can use to build crazy contraptions.
